Gas City, Ltd. is an independent petroleum marketer with locations in Northeast Illinois, Northwest Indiana, Florida and Arizona. Mr. William J. McEnery founder and president of Gas City, Ltd. officially opened its doors to the public on September 6, 1966 with its first location on 55th and Pulaski Street in Chicago, Illinois. The location had the largest  sign in the City of Chicago, the height of the sign was 40 feet, and highlighted the name Gas City in bright yellow neon letters with an orange background.

Since its inception in 1966, Gas City, Ltd. remains a family owned and operated business. Under the direction of its founder and president, Gas City continues to grow. In the past 30 years Gas City has owned and operated over 75 locations, and has developed into a multi-million dollar company.

In the early 1970's Gas City was one of the first independent petroleum marketers to sell dairy products. To promote this new product Mr. McEnery purchased a fiberglass cow and placed in on the roof of his first location at 55th and Pulaski in Chicago. The cow stayed there until  the roof gave way to the cow's weight in 1976. This fiberglass cow now has a permanent home at the Gas City corporate headquarters, which was relocated from Chicago to Frankfort, Illinois in 1972.

Gas City's continued dedication to future growth has resulted in the construction of five to ten new locations each calendar year. Gas City's concept  is to build one new location at a time and more importantly to make each location customer friendly. In 1998, Gas City's management team, along with architects and designers developed their new prototypical convenient store. This was the first change in Gas City's architecture since the early 1980's. The new store features two great entry towers, a full glass storefront, a distinct food service area, an exquisite coffee and breakfast roll area as well as an open and inviting store plan.
